Costumes

2017: Westley (Dayne) & Buttercup (Eliza) from the Princessbride

Princess dresses are some of the most satisfying outfits to make. It takes a lot of time and fabric, but it’s all worth it to see it come together. This dress was my first experiment with grommet work – featured on the back. It also include floats, and handmade jewelry. Dayne and I won an “Audience Choice” award with this duo at a local Halloween dance!

2018: Robin (Eliza) from 1966 Batman!

Senior year of high school involved a week of fun costumes leading up to Homecoming! For superhero day, I decided to be one of my favorites – Robin from the 1966 Batman tv series. Any outfit with cute details and fun colors is an automatic win. I made this whole costume in one day with no actual pattern (other than a basic one I made based off of a well-fitting T-shirt). I was really proud of this one and I still use it as my go-to to this day!

2016: Yoda (Eliza) from Star Wars

Star Wars 7 was one of the first big premieres I took part in! We were given permission to dress up, and naturally I couldn’t pass that up. I decided to be everyone’s favorite little green Jedi! The hat was definitely a little itchy, but it was overall one of my more comfortable costumes!

Arya Stark (Eliza) from Game of Thrones

One of my first full costumes! I’ve been told by many people that I look really similar to Maisie William’s Arya in GOT, so I decided to confuse people even more. My cousin had a Halloween themed wedding, and I had to go all out. I spent around 30 hours hand stitching the jacket. It’s made of several strips of carpet-like material, that I stitched on the sides with thick yarn to give it the barbed style look to it. The pleated collar, pants, sword, and coin, and painted boots, were also done by me.

King Louis XIV (Eliza)

Okay, laugh all you want. Louis and I have made it through some tough times. My humanities class in high school had a dress up day towards the end of the year. We were supposed to dress up as someone we learned about, and have others guess who we were. So naturally, this was a dream come true. I wore this costume the *entire day* because I had it last hour. I rocked my culottes (adapted from a PJ shorts pattern) and pointy shoes. I hand stitched the gold lamΓ© fleur-de-lis onto the tunic I made. The wig and eyeliner mustache really made this though.

P.S. For those wondering about the tree – Louis decided to show his wealth but planting trees in pots and putting it on top of the grass, instead of directly in the ground. Wild, right?

2017: Lumiere (Dayne) & Chip (Eliza) & Mrs. Potts (Marlene) – Beauty & the Beast

The boss asked employees to dress up for the Beauty & The Beast live action movie coming out. I was often dressed as Belle (the dress wasn’t mine) and I got to greet children coming in. But that didn’t stop me from making Dayne into Lumiere! His hat even lit up! This was only a few weeks into our relationship, so he was an extra good sport about it all πŸ™‚ I made a really simple Chip costume

2017: Bathtub Emoji (Miranda) – The Emoji Movie

I made numerous coworkers into “emojis” but the one I feel most proud of is the bathtub I made. My friend Miranda was probably just as excited as I was! It may have been a little hard t move, sure. But she looked great! I broke apart Easter eggs to act as bubbles, and spray painted the whole thing white. I even included a little rubber ducky, just because πŸ™‚

2018 Two Face: Ballroom Version (Eliza) – Batman

I needed a costume for a cosplay themed ballroom dance, so I made a split Two-Face dress! The tame half is all black, white, and silver. The crazy side is gray, pink, and has a bunch of florals. Not pictured, but I created heels that matched my split blazer! I also wore a necklace with a coin, to represent the one that Harvey carries. I was overall really happy with this! I would love to take the time to do the hair and makeup a little better, and get some decent pictures.

2018 The Riddler: Ballroom Version (Dayne) – Batman

Two-Face needed a date! Dayne suited up as the enigmatic Riddler! Most of this was put together instead of sewn from scratch. However, I did embroider some of his coat and hat for him.

2019 Modern Droids: R2-D2 (Eliza) & C-3P0 (Dayne) & BB-8 (Nick) – Star Wars

Halloween may not be my favorite holiday, but I do love making Halloween costumes! I decided to do a modern take of these classic droids. I made a retro style R2-D2 dress for myself (with bell sleeves!!) Dayne is what I like to call “Hipster 3-P0” with a shirt full or ribbons to represent wires. Nick wanted a more comfortable costume, so I adapted a really cozy hoodie and hat for him to be BB-8!

2019: Mouse Droid (Atlas) – Star Wars

Our first Halloween costume for Atlas! We wanted him to match our Star Wars theme, so we decided to make him one of the cutest droids we could think of – a mouse droid! They’re the little sweeper droids in the Death Star that squeak and run into walls. It felt pretty fitting πŸ™‚

2020: Robin Hood (Aiyanna)

My good friend Aiyanna wanted a Halloween costume, so we threw together this Robin Hood one! Most of this was stuff we already had (including the fabric) so we only spent a total of about $5! The quiver is made out of a Pringle’s can that I painted. The arrows are wooden dowels with foam that I hot glued on. The shirt pattern is self drafted.
